Aegishjalmur; loosely translated to the Helm of Awe, is an Icelandic rune from the Huld manuscript, which is created both to instill fear among one's enemies and to protect the bearer of the rune.
Ægishjalmur is first mentioned in the Icelandic Huld manuscript, written by Geir Vigfússon in 1860. Ægishjalmur the rune is therefore not a part of the Viking Age, but a symbol often associated with Vikings.
