Jewelry That Can Be Gold-Plated

Silver jewelry that can be gold plated

At Ydale, you will find a selection of genuine silver jewelry, perfect for gold plating. Silver is an ideal material for gold plating because it has a smooth and clean surface, ensuring that the gold layer adheres beautifully and durably. This means you can choose exactly the silver jewelry you love and have it transformed with a layer of genuine 14 karat gold for a warm and exclusive look.

Gold plating allows you to customize a piece of jewelry to your personal style. Maybe you want a golden shine instead of the cool tone of silver, or you want to create harmony between your jewelry in different metals. Whatever the reason, we can help you choose a silver piece that is perfect for gold plating – and ensure the result is both beautiful and long-lasting.

Why choose silver jewelry for gold plating?

A gold-plated silver piece combines the best of both worlds: genuine craftsmanship in solid silver and the warm glow of real gold. At Ydale, we see gold plating as a way to create a personal piece of jewelry – a unique expression that suits you and your style.

Many choose to gold plate a silver piece that has sentimental value – an heirloom, a gift, or a favorite design that deserves new life. Others choose gold plating because they want a more exclusive look without the price of solid gold. Whatever the purpose, the result is a piece of jewelry that feels new but still carries its original story.

Materials and suitability

Only jewelry made of genuine silver is suitable for gold plating. Silver has a chemical surface that allows the gold layer to bond evenly and securely during the galvanic process. Metals such as stainless Steel, brass, and tin cannot be gold plated with the same quality or durability, which is why we only offer gold plating for silver jewelry.

All jewelry in this category on Ydale.dk is made of sterling silver and can be professionally gold plated in our own workshop. You are free to choose from pendants, rings, earrings, brooches, and bracelets – and then have your chosen piece gold plated with 14 karat gold.

The look of gold plating

Gold plating changes the color and surface of the jewelry but not its shape or structure. The silver gains a warm, golden shine that preserves the character of the piece while adding a new expression. It is important to note that oxidized details disappear during gold plating. The dark contrasts that highlight patterns and engravings are covered by the gold layer.

If your jewelry has distinct dark details or oxidation patterns, the look may become more uniform and smooth after gold plating. For some designs, this is desired, while others lose some of their contrast. We are happy to advise you before we start so you can choose the result that suits you best.

How gold plating is done

Gold plating is performed in our own workshop using a galvanic process. The jewelry is thoroughly cleaned and polished before being immersed in an electrolytic bath with gold ions. When an electric current passes through the solution, the gold bonds to the silver surface in a thin, even layer.

At Ydale, we use 14 karat gold in a layer of about 1.5–2 microns. This is significantly thicker than ordinary fashion jewelry plating and therefore provides a more durable and long-lasting surface. After the treatment, the jewelry is dried, inspected, and checked to ensure the quality meets our standards.

Prices for gold plating

We offer fixed and transparent prices for gold plating silver jewelry:

  • Small and medium-sized jewelry: 200 kr. – e.g., rings, earrings, pendants, and small brooches.
  • Large jewelry: 400 kr. – e.g., bracelets, large brooches, or heavy necklaces.

The price covers the entire process: cleaning, preparation, gold plating with 14 kt gold, and subsequent quality control. If you are unsure which category your jewelry belongs to, you can send a photo – we will assess it free of charge and without obligation.

A personal choice without the right of return

Gold plating is a custom modification performed specifically according to your wishes. Once a silver piece is gold plated, the process cannot be undone, and the surface cannot be restored to its original form. Therefore, we consider gold plating a personal customization that is exempt from the right of return and exchange.

We always review the task with you before we start so that you fully understand the result. This way, we ensure you get exactly the look you want – and that the jewelry is given new life with care and respect for the material.

Care for gold-plated silver jewelry

Although our gold plating is done with an extra thick layer of gold, all gold-plated jewelry will be affected by wear over time. To preserve the shine as long as possible, we recommend handling your jewelry with care.

  • Remove jewelry when bathing, sleeping, or exercising.
  • Avoid contact with perfume, creams, and cleaning products.
  • Store jewelry dry and separately in a small box or pouch.

With proper care, the gold plating can last for many years. When it wears off over time, we can always re-plate the jewelry. Many choose to refresh their gold-plated jewelry every year or every other year, depending on how much it is worn.

Nordic design and timeless elegance

The jewelry in this category carries the Nordic expression that characterizes Ydale – a blend of natural shapes, mythological inspiration, and timeless craftsmanship. When a silver piece is gold plated, it gains an extra dimension: the warm glow of gold combined with the cool, Nordic design. The result is a piece of jewelry that feels both modern and classic at the same time.

Whether you choose a pendant with Yggdrasil, a Mjölnir hammer, a brooch inspired by the Viking Age, or a ring with natural stones, gold plating will add a new character to the piece. It becomes not just a piece of jewelry that shines – but a piece that tells a story.
