Beautiful and historic bronze bracteate!
This beautiful pendant is a museum replica, which means it is based on a genuine find. The original is one of over 300 bracteates found in Denmark.
The motif originally comes from imperial medallions in gold. At first, medallions were typically decorated with clear portraits, and over time more and more motifs were added, including Nordic runes, mythical creatures and sacred symbols. The bracteates were often worn as amulets and served as signs of wisdom and protection against evil spirits.
This particular pendant features a stylized motif of a mythical creature biting its own tail, surrounded by simple shapes.
The pendant is 34 x 29 mm and is made of bronze.
