Here is a symbol that has both concrete and spiritual meaning!

Vegvisir can be loosely translated as Vejviser, as it means "that which shows the way". The symbol has often been considered a form of Viking compass, but it is actually a traditional and sacred Icelandic rune staff.

The symbol is associated with the ability to help people find their way home and can protect them from storms, but it also had a more spiritual or existential meaning! It is also seen as a compass for the soul that can help you find your right path in life, make the right choices and guide your heart in a good direction.

The guide is first mentioned in the Icelandic Huld manuscript, written by Geir Vigfússon in 1860. The guide rune is therefore not part of the Viking Age but a symbol often associated with Vikings.
