Ægishjalmur; loosely translated to the Helm of Awe, is an Icelandic rune from the Huld manuscript, which is partly created to instill fear among one's enemies and to protect the bearer of the rune.
Ægishjalmuris first mentioned in the Icelandic Huld manuscript, written by Geir Vigfússon in 1860. The Ægishjalmur rune is therefore not part of the Viking Age but a symbol often associated with Vikings.
