The magical number 3 had significance for both the Vikings (the 3 worlds Asgard, Midgard, and Utgard) and Christians (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Therefore, triangular Knots, such as this one, gained great significance during the transition period from Norse mythology to Christianity.
