Brooch / Clasp made of genuine 925s Sterling silver in a beautiful and authentic Viking design!
This is one of our absolute largest and most beautiful brooches in genuine silver. The motif is found on the Oseberg ship from the Oseberg burial site in Norway. The snakes that adorn the brooch had many meanings during the Viking Age, among other things, shedding skin was a symbol of immortality. Snakes are found as motifs on countless artifacts from the entire area where the Vikings traveled and resided.
The Oseberg find is an extravagant burial from the year 834 discovered in 1903 and is one of the most impressive finds ever. The find includes, among other things, a long ship, 12-15 horse skeletons, a cart, four sleds, tent poles, five beds, chests, textile tools, a lot of kitchen and tableware, as well as tools for outdoor work.
In a burial chamber behind the ship's mast, the skeletons of two women were found, presumably a queen and a slave woman. Unfortunately, there had been a burglary in the mound long before the official discovery, and therefore much of the skeletons and some grave goods were missing. However, there is no doubt that this burial was magnificent.
This buckle is approximately 48mm long and 48mm wide.
