Brooch / Clasp made of bronze in a beautiful and authentic Viking design!
Brooches were used in the Viking Age as garment pins and as decorations that could be passed down. This pin is shaped like a dragon, which is very iconic of the Middle Ages.
This piece of jewelry is made specifically after a find from Birka in Sweden. After lying on the seabed for more than a thousand years, the jewelry was found in 2015. Archaeologists have dated the dragon head to the 8th century.
The Vikings' dragon brooches were used as garment pins, and they were produced by pouring melted metal into stone molds. This method is still partially used in modern jewelry making. As far back as 1887, a mold made of soapstone was found, whose motif resembles the Birka dragon very closely, so the archaeologists quickly recognized the dragon head.
This clasp is approximately 71mm long and 41mm wide.
