The ring is made of oxidized silver that is polished so that all the important details stand out clearly.
Along the sides of the ring are futhark runes, and the crowning glory is the Vejviser rune.
The Futhark runes were originally inspired by the Greek and Roman alphabets, but were developed into an independent writing system adapted to the languages spoken in the Nordic and Germanic areas. It began with the rune sequence fu-þ-ark, which later gave the runic alphabet the name 'futhark'.
The guide is first mentioned in the Icelandic Huld manuscript, written by Geir Vigfússon in 1860. The guide rune is therefore not part of the Viking Age, but a symbol often associated with Vikings. Also known as Vegvísir, loosely translated as guide.
The ring is 15mm high and is made of genuine silver.
