Beautiful and historic piece of jewelry from Funen!
This amazing brooch is a copy of a genuine find from Skellerup on East Funen. The original piece of jewelry is a dress buckle depicting a woman tearing her long hair. The woman's clothing is adorned with pearls and jewelry.
The original is dated to the 9th-10th century, the early Viking Age. Similar figures have been found all over Denmark, and although it is uncertain exactly who the woman represents, it is believed to be a depiction of the goddess Freya.
The piece of jewelry was found in the summer of 2023 and has been on display at the Viking Museum in Ladby, but since it is a Dane animal, the piece of jewelry belongs to the National Museum and will be exhibited there.
The piece of jewelry is 37mm high, 17mm wide and 2mm thick - just like the original, and it is made of genuine silver.
