Beautiful pendant with a snake motif made of bronze!
The snake was an important symbol for the Vikings. It was believed that its changing gender made it immortal and that it guarded the gate to the underworld. In Norse mythology, there is also the serpent-dragon Midgardsormen, which plays an important role in Ragnarok.
The snake was often used as a motif in jewelry and other art, as the body of a snake is easy to shape into important symbols and figures. As a symbol, the snake represents strength and power.
This pendant is one of these significant amulets. The pendant is a copy of a genuine find from Nordfjord, located in Norway. Here the snake is seen coiled around itself in a tight spiral, while its head bites tightly on the string or chain on which the pendant is worn.
The pendant is 33 x 23 mm and is made of bronze.
