Fantastic museum copy from the Hiddensee treasure in bronze!
This impressive pendant depicts a hanging cross from the Hiddensee treasure. The Hiddensee treasure was found in 1872-1874 on the island of Hiddensee in Germany and is believed to date back to 970/980. Other copies from the find are on display at the Cultural History Museum Stralsund in Germany.
Above is a stylized bird's head, which is the focal point of the piece. Below this are curved shapes that, together with the bird's head, form a large and three small crosses. The shapes of this piece of jewelry and the materials used are largely unique, and similar techniques have only been seen in finds from Haithabu (Hedeby in Danish) and Jork, both located in Germany.
The pendant is 36 x 35 mm and is made of bronze.
