Beautiful brooch with snake motif!
This amazing piece of jewelry is a replica of a genuine find from the Viking Age. The brooch depicts a snake, perhaps the Midgard Serpent, biting its own tail.
The snake was an important religious motif for the Vikings, and snakes are depicted on everything from jewelry to monuments and countless finds. The Vikings believed that the snake was the guardian of the gate to the underworld and that it was immortal because of its ability to change form.
Snakes have also been an interesting motif to work with, as the long, thin body can be shaped into various symbols such as circles, knots, etc.
The snake has often been used as a symbol of power, strength and long life, and can therefore be appropriately used as an amulet for these things.
The brooch is 27 x 34 mm and is made of bronze.
