They represent one of two Viking ships that were found in the harbor near the town of Hedeby, which is located in Schleswig. In the Viking Age, Hedeby was an economic hub, as it functioned as a trade center, and trade was a huge part of Viking society. The ship here is a longship, which was a prominent type of warship in the late Viking Age.
