A beautiful and historically significant brooch!
This beautiful piece of jewelry is a copy of a genuine find. The original was found in Sösdala in Sweden and is believed to date from the early 5th century, which was the time of the migrations.
The original was produced by nomadic horse people and was a fitting from an extremely well-crafted and ornate bridle for a horse. The quality of the craftsmanship is exceptional and can be compared to the best metalwork from the Roman Empire.
Many of the beautifully detailed fittings found had been broken or chopped as part of Norman burial rituals. The find is evidence that Scandinavian peoples were to some extent influenced by the chaos that occurred in Europe when the Roman Empire collapsed.
The brooch is 35 x 35 mm and is made of bronze.
